Abstract

Multimedia database systems store large volumes of text, images, and other information. Efficient indexing methods are crucial if these information collections are to be useful. In this note we survey recent developments in inverted file organizations that allow full index information to be represented compactly yet accessed extremely quickly. This means that large collections can be queried by content & well as by access routes.
