Abstract
The trend of producing databases which do not satisfy organizational requirements and which are inflexible can be attributed to the low quality of input to the database design process.
The adage of "garbage in - garbage out" applies to the database desigu process.
The output of the requirements specification and analysis process is the database designer's input.
If this input to the database designer is inaccurate, or incomplete, the resulting database design will be inadequate regardless of quality of the design methodology employed.
Therefore, successful database design requires satisfactory input.
