In this paper we generalize methods for incremental view maintenance to deal with multiple updates. This enables us to consider cases when updates are neither restricted to single range(relation) nor to single tuple and could be grouped in complex transactions. With a given set of assumptions, we provide a view simplification algorithm for arbitrary transactions, and also for views expressed in prenex normal form in relational tuple calculus with no restrictions on the number of variables ranging over the same relation. Based on the prefix of a view, our simplification algorithm transforms the view into an UNION-INTERSECTION of simplier views which are cheaper to evaluate. The algorithm does not require the detail analysis of update transactions and is independent of the database states such that it can be applied at compile-time.
