Data mining has become increasingly relevant in both research and applications, as witnessed by the increasing number of products and well as scientific papers and conferences devoted to this topic. Because of the large number of data mining techniques that have been proposed, it is important to have scientific papers providing comprehensive overviews on this topic. This paper does a very good job in providing such an overview. I particularly like the requirement section that outlines the main challenges towards the development of data mining techniques. Some of this requirements, such as protection of privacy and data security, to date have not been satisfactorily been addressed. I definitely would like to see another paper like this surveying more recent advances on this topic.
