Abstract

Results of research into methods of managing evidence can be coupled with the power and capacity of data management systems to give a potent approach to discovering interesting but hidden patterns in large collections of data. We present some pertinent results from evidence theory and its applications, and suggest an approach to the exploitation of these results in the discovery of knowledge which is held in databases. In this sense we add value to databases, which presumably already justify their existence, and hence further increase the attractiveness of very large database systems.
